Safari Tented Camps in Mara: Ngare Serian is a safari tented camp located in historic Masai Mara region. ‘Ngare’ translates to ‘by the river’ in the Masai language, and the idea behind this snug little camp was to transport the serenity of the original Serian camp to the water’s edge. Ngare Serian is a safari tented camp located in historic Masai Mara region. ‘Ngare’ translates to ‘by the river’ in the Masai language, and the idea behind this snug little camp was to transport the serenity of the original Serian camp to the water’s edge. Hugging the banks of the Mara, Ngare Serian is cozy and intimate. It can only be reached on foot, over a narrow rope bridge – and in a way the crossover is symbolic: a call to step out of touch and out of time, and give yourself over to the natural charm of the place. There’s something special about being on the water’s edge – the water slipping and sloshing over the stones sets a soothing soundtrack, but at the same time, its energy and movement lend lightness and life – green shoots, verdant growth and glossy rocks that metamorphose into hippos.
Camps tend to be a manifestation of the personalities behind them, and ours are no exception. If you’re part of these spaces for long enough, they seep into your pores, and slow, gentle osmosis attunes your rhythm to the cadence of sunrises and seasons – and this permeates the atmosphere of our peaceful abodes. The rooms are singly designed with an en-suite bathroom, a minibar, and a private balcony.
Accordingly, tents blend into their surrounds, and are designed to afford the most minimal separation between you and the outside – there’s no cut and dried division where the wilderness ends. To truly immerse somewhere, you should be touched, reached, accessed by it… And much like in nature, our furnishings are simplistic and functional, but unobtrusively beautiful.
Continental meals and drinks are ordered at the on-site restaurant and bar. Guests can enjoy game drives, bush walks, river fishing, cultural activities, cooking with camp chefs, adventure fly-camping, night game drives, off-road driving, access to our treehouse 'The Nest', hot air ballooning and private guiding.
At any point in time, there is a whole range of incredible and exciting things going on at any one of our camps. Whether you already have your dates booked and just want to check what the highlights will be, or you’re looking for when is best to visit a certain area – we’ve broken the year down into quarters, and sections of interest: general game, migration, photography, and walking.
August and the festive season tend to be popular times to come on safari – but if you can skirt around these busy periods, the magic is still very much happening… And the best part is that the plains are empty of people, and you have the wilderness to yourself. Have a look at our guide to picking the moment that will suit you best – and remember that the road less traveled will always make all the difference.
Laundry/dry cleaning services are offered on-site. The premises are guarded by security personnel and on-site parking is available. This tented camp is situated just beside the Mara River and 45 minutes away from Mara North Airstrip.
