About Moonriver Mountain Retreat

Moonriver Mountain Retreat is a self-catering establishment which is situated on the edge of a large secluded valley, nestled in the heart of the Waterberg Biosphere of Limpopo, South Africa and overlooking an amazing valley with breathtaking views of the mountains and sunrise. Moonriver Mountain Retreat has a Main Lodge, three private spacious Chalets (Safari, Sunrise and Waterhole) and a private three bedroom House (Eagle's Nest), situated on the ridge of the Mountain, all within a short walking distance from the Main Lodge and Parking Bay.
The Main Lodge, Chalets and House are all with total glass frontage to take maximum advantage of the breathtaking views of the Valley and Mountains. The Chalets and House are situated away from the Main Lodge to ensure privacy. Any type of vehicle can reach us. There are staff available to help you with your baggage to your unit

The Main Lodge and swimming pool are open for use by all guests with a spacious open lounge/dining area with fire places inside. Large equipped kitchen with fridge, microwave and gas oven. Toilet facilities, big outside deck and fire boma. The Chalets and House offers guests spectacular views of the amazing valley and surrounds, interesting walking trails or strenuous hiking for the fitter visitors. During summer there are numerous springs and water streams to explore in different valleys, with abundant wildlife, birds and flowers.

The Safari Chalet is build on the edge of the Mountain with a pathway with stairs and IS NOT SUITABLE FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE.

There is no shop or Restaurant on the property.
Guests must bring their own Ice, Wood and Firelighters.
Not wheelchair friendly.
Strictly no pets allowed.

Romantic: Spectacular views of the amazing valley and surrounds, as well as interesting walking or strenuous hiking for the fitter visitors! Abundant wildlife, birds and flowers.

Covid Safety Approved: All necessary requirements for sanitising and cleaning according Covid-19 requirements have been complied to. Every individual will have to complete a mandatory Covid-19 visitor register upon arrival.

• A 50% deposit is required to confirm booking and balance 4 days prior to arrival.

★★★★★ Beautiful self-catering chalet with a view down the valley - and the stars at night…stunning!Well set out, everything one could need, incl. gas geyser for hot shower during load shedding.Only improvement would be a gas burner, for a hot coffee or meal when eskom doing their thing.

★★★★★ Most beautiful and private place. Only 1 thing I didn’t like is that you can’t sleep there in the morning as there are no curtains on top windows. We went to relax there and couldn’t sleep in the morning. But other thn that we loved it. Night sky was bonus for us. There was no staff to help us with our bags from car to the room which was also disappointing.

★★★★★ Moonriver is one of the best Lodge you can get in Vaalwater, we enjoyed the deck the most,having dinner listening to birds was out of this world, the views were lovely. we even took walks to the dam. Everything in Safari was perfect. I wouldn't mind coming over and over again, the only issue is the long gravel road, and that Safari leaks when it rains, and kitchenette is too small. other than...
