About Makakatana Bay Lodge

Exclusively situated in the Proclaimed 'Greater St Lucia Wetland Park' reserve, the largest marine lake in Africa, Makakatana Bay Lodge remains the only privately owned and run luxury Lodge within this pristine World Heritage Site.

The lodge has five luxury suites situated privately in a thick forest overlooking the lake. Facilities include: mini bars, air-conditioning, overhead fan, separate toilet and bathroom, outside shower, dressing room, private decks. There is a private pool set on the lakes edge. Restaurant dinning room and outdoor boma available. Adventures include: Hippo Crocodile Safaris, Boat safaris on the lake, Safaris to Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve and Boat beach safaris to the pristine beaches of Cape Vidal where one can enjoy snorkeling and swimming in the warm Indian Ocean.

Safari: We offer a FI (Fully Inclusive) package which includes all inhouse activities. - Afternoon Wetland Game drive. - Full day boat and Western Shores Safari . - Full day beach and Eastern Shores Safari. - Morning game drive.

Beach: We offer full day safaris to the Beaches on Eastern Shores which is a fabulous full day trip which combines a safari game drive, beach visit and picnic lunch in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

Family friendly: Ages 6 -12 pay 50% Children U6 accepted on request with a family group - see child policy

Romantic: Ideal for a romantic getaway. All our luxury suites are private with outside baths that look out into the bush.

Self-drive Safari Package: We offer a FB (Full board) package which includes all meals but excludes safaris which allows you to either book them as extras or do your own self drives in the Western iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

Guided Safaris: Our guides take our guests out on exclusive private Makakatana Safaris within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

Family Safaris: Great for family escapes to the bush and beach and wetlands within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park World Heritage site.

Romantic Safaris: Makakatana is small and intimate with only 8 suites.

From arriving at the lodge we were treated like royals. The staff is outstanding - friendly and helpful. The location is so peaceful and you can see the animals grazing from your bed! Michael Botes is a guide that we will never forget because his love for nature and his knowledge of animal behaviour, plants, trees, insects, etc. The food is outstanding! The excursions offered daily is a huge bonus and a must to attend.
