About Wilderness Safaris Kalahari Plains Camp

Wilderness Safaris Kalahari Plains Camp is a true nature enthusiast’s dream. It is nestled within the rugged beauty of the Central Kalahari and offers beautiful views of an immense pan and open plains. This is a great option for couples or groups hoping to experience a memorable bushveld getaway.

There are nine tented units ideal for couples. Each elevated unit has two single beds and an en-suite bathroom. The covered veranda on the lower level offers undisturbed views of the plains, while the rooftop veranda is a unique place to sleep as well as to enjoy views of the star-filled sky.

The site also has two tented units ideal for families or small groups. Each unit has two bedrooms, of which both share a bathroom. These units also have verandas inviting guests to relax and enjoy views of nature at its best.

This part of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve offers year-round viewing of desert wildlife. Summer is spectacular, with huge concentrations of game and predators such as lion and cheetah. This is a premium desert experience throughout the year, with prime game-viewing during the summer months.

General herbivore species easily seen include gemsbok, springbok, red hartebeest, grey duiker and steenbok. Other big game include the sensational black-maned Kalahari lion, as well as one of the highest concentrations of cheetah in Southern Africa. There are also leopard, brown hyaena and even caracal. Small predators include meerkats, Cape foxes, honey badgers, black-backed jackals, and many mongoose species.

Important Information

Due to thick sand and road conditions the camp can only be accessed by 4x4 vehicles and guests should have experience of driving in thick sand.

All self-drivers to camp must have a confirmed reservation prior to arriving in camp. Self-drivers are welcome to partake in camp activities/drives but may not do self-drives within a 3 km radius of camp – i.e. within the private area of the camp.

Neither Wilderness Adventures nor the staff of Kalahari Plains camp are responsible for self-drive guests reaching camp. Accordingly all self-drive guests should ensure they have all information, equipment and necessities to reach their destination. All self-drive guests in Botswana should travel with and be experienced in the use of a GPS as well as ensuring they have a satellite phone which is fully charged at all times.

On arrival at the National Park gate, guests should sign the Kalahari Plains entrance book to be eligible for the discounted certified “Operators” rate associated with Kalahari Plains camp. All National Park fees are to be paid in camp and are calculated on a per person and per vehicle entrance rate, not per night.
