About Akanan Guest House
We as the owners manage a relatively small establishment in the La Lucia / Umhlanga Rocks area. Our aim is to create a family atmosphere where all guest will feel welcome and at home; therefore we will walk the extra mile to make your stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible. Akanan is very easy to find just off the M4 freeway between Durban and Umhlanga Rocks. We are walking distance from La Lucia Beach and a small shopping centre with a grocery store and various restaurants. Umhlanga Rocks is 4 kilometers away, with Durban City Centre, Moses Mabidha, Kingspark Swimming Pool,
The guest house is walking distance from La Lucia Beach.
We are a family business which caters for families with children. A homely atmosphere is very important to us and therefore children are more than welcome.

Accommodation
No person other than those quoted for, are permitted to share the accommodation.
Check in: 14H00 or earlier on prior arrangement.
Check out: Before or at 10H30.
50% of the daily rate will be charged for departures after 10h30 but before 12h00.
Daily Rate Excludes:
Extra room items, beverages and all incidentals.
Entertainment of visitors and using facilities by non paying guests:
When entertaining visitors who are not paying guests from Akanan Guest House a levy of R150.00 per event will apply for the use of guest house facilities (for example: use of water, lights, and toilet facilities)
Visitors are not allowed to visit guest in the room the lounge, lapa or entertainment area can be used. When a room, dining room, lounge, lapa area or the self-catering unit are used for training or conference purposes a levy will be charged depending on the amount of people attending
Insurance
To avoid any misunderstanding, a booking constitutes a binding contract. All guests confirming a booking are advised to take out insurance to cover the full cost of their accommodation in the event of cancellation. We will seek compensation for any cancelled accommodation that cannot be re-let, including premature curtailment.
Disclaimer Notification
Guests attend this establishment at their own risk. Neither the proprietor (owner), nor their representatives or agents, and or its employees, shall not be liable for; (and the guests herby waive/s and abandon/s) any claims of whatever nature including, but not limited to that for death, theft, injury, loss or damage of whatever nature against the proprietor, whether arising from the proprietors default, negligence or otherwise. The guest/s, in addition to the aforesaid, herby indemnify the proprietor against any claims which may arise from whatever nature, whether arising from the proprietor’s default, negligence or otherwise.
Indemnity
It will be required to sign an indemnity document on arrival at the guest house. The wording is as follows:
“Guests attend this establishment at their own risk. The proprietor, its agents, and or its employees, shall not be liable for; (and the guests herby waive/s and abandon/s) any claims of whatever nature including, but not limited to that for theft, injury, loss or damage of whatever nature against the proprietor, whether arising from the proprietors default, negligence or otherwise. The guest/s, in addition to the aforesaid, herby indemnify the proprietor against any claims which may arise from whatever nature, whether arising from the proprietor’s default, negligence or otherwise.”
GUEST IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Act 13 Section 40 (1) of the Act together with Regulation 36
On 26 May 2014, the above Act has changed and states that, inter alia, all hotels and motels must keep a register containing details of all persons who are provided with lodging or sleeping accommodation.
The Register must, in respect of a lodger, contain:
1. his or her full names and surname;
2. a copy of his or her identification document or passport;
3. his or her residence status in the Republic; and
4. his or her normal residential address.
Under the Act each lodger must sign the register and furnish the prescribed particulars regarding himself or herself.
Penalties for non-compliance, both for the guest and the premises, include:
1. Guilty of an offence / crime;
2. Fine; and/or
3. Imprisonment for a period not exceeding 12 months.

Section 40
40. Keeping of registers of lodgers by certain persons
(1) The person in charge of any premises, whether furnished or unfurnished, where lodging or sleeping accommodation is provided for payment or reward shall, if those premises fall within a prescribed class, in the prescribed manner keep a register of all persons who are provided with lodging or sleeping accommodation thereon, and every such person shall sign the register and furnish therein the prescribed particulars regarding himself or herself.
Regulation 36
Keeping of registers of lodgers by certain persons
36. (1) The classes of premises contemplated in Section 40(1) of the Act are-
(a) hotels and motels;
(b) boarding houses and lodges;
(c) guest houses; and
(d) apartment buildings.
In light of the above and that there is no definition in the Act of “persons”, the interpretation is that it extends to all.
