This tequila-dominated retreat caters for fiery palates using only traditional Mexican ingredients that transcend the palate on a journey through Mexico.

The menu spills authentic cuisine roughly translated and favour authentic corn tortillas and dishes best enjoyed with Tequila.

The owner occasionally delights patrons with singing and guitar as flickering candles silhouette Mexican crosses, Sombreros and rust coloured walls.

The open plan kitchen buzzes with aromas and tantalizing dishes such as nachos, coiled tortillas, tacos, tampiquena (barbecued meat with red rice, beans, guacamole) and tortillas (either handmade with corn or flour) accompanied by barbecued meat, guacamole, mozzarella, onion and coriander.

Reputed for the best margaritas in town, freshly prepared meals and endless tequila, San Julian offers an authentic Mexican welcome.

It is so hard to find authentic Mexican food in Cape Town. This little spot in the city is actually owned and run by a Mexican family and the fair is traditional slow-cooked Mexican food, not the horrible "tex-mex" stuff that is usually dished up. The tortillas are handmade in the kitchen and all of the food was very fresh and tasty. I will definitely be back.
